Etheridge Secures $400,000 for Future Harnett Co. Hospital

U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-Lillington), the only North Carolina member of the House Ways and Means Committee, lauded President Obama for signing a final appropriations bill which included $400,000 in funding for the future Harnett County Central Campus Hospital.

"This funding is great news for Harnett County, and is about jobs for our community. State-of-the art medical facilities will support our expected growth, and attract new residents and businesses," Etheridge said. "The new hospital will provide 24-hour medical care and enable more Harnett County residents to access emergency services."

Harnett County officials have designated a 128-acre site to house the new hospital, along with a science and technology campus and other education-related organizations. Together the groups will focus on pharmaceutical development, allied health training, and promoting economic development in the area.

The funding announced today will support the construction of the acute care hospital, which will provide:

· 50 private acute care beds, and eight that can provide specialized care;

· Three operating rooms;

· A 12-bay 24-hour emergency department;

· Support services and a comprehensive clinical lab; and

· Physical, speech and occupational therapy, and cardiopulmonary and critical care.

The Harnett County Central Campus hospital is expected to create up to 300 new jobs.
