Etheridge Announces $2.82 Million in Federal Loans and Grants for Sampson County
(Washington, DC) - U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-Lillington) today announced that various public works projects and entities in Clinton, NC, Roseboro, NC, and Harrells, NC, have been awarded a total of $2,817,500 in loans and grants through The American Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).
The funding will be used by the towns to:
- Repair and modernize city water lines, improve drinking water quality, renovate the downtown and build handicap accesses in Clinton, NC;
- Purchase a new larger pumper-tanker fire truck to serve Roseboro and Coharie fire districs; and
- Make improvements to the Harrells Volunteer Fire Department fire building in Harrells, NC.
ARRA is an economic stimulus package enacted by the 111th Congress and signed into law by President Barack Obama on February 17, 2009. The Act includes federal tax relief, expansion of unemployment benefits, domestic spending in education, health care, and infrastructure, including the energy sector.
