Etheridge announces awards from American Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009
(Washington, DC) - U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-Lillington) today announced a trio of awards benefitting the second district through The American Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).
Wake Health Services in Raleigh, NC has been awarded $928,300.00 The funding will be used by Wake Health Services to:
- Purchase new medical and dental equipment, and software to enhance patient care;
- Expand services at the New Bern Ridge Center to provide for same-day care;
- Hire additional staff and increase the night hours of the clinic by Fall 2009 to accommodate the double-digit growth of patients; and
- Renovate the Raleigh facility.
Tri-County Community Health in Newton Grove, NC has been awarded $1,376,930.00. The funding will be used by Tri-County Community to:
- Renovate and remodel 3 health center sites including the Tri-County Health Center in Newton Grove, the Carolina Pines facility in Salemburg, NC and the Bladen Lakes Dental Clinic;
- Utilize digital x-ray equipment for the first time ever;
- Move to electronic dental records;
- Provide all doctors, nurse practitioners and assistants, tele-help and tele-health conferencing which allows professionals separated by hundreds of miles or inclement weather to view and manipulate patient medical data at a moments notice; and
- Build environmental help center for our maintenance workers.
First Choice Community Health Centers in Mamers, NC, has been awarded $585,300.00. The funding will be used by First Choice Community Health Centers to:
- Purchase two emergency generators for the Anderson Creek Dental Clinic and the Angier Medical Center;
- Replace four dental operatories, where dentists, or assistants perform tasks away from patients;
- Renovate the Angier Medical Center and Benhaven Medical Center; and
- Begin construction and renovation at the Anderson Creek Medical Center.
ARRA is an economic stimulus package enacted by the 111th Congress and signed into law by President Barack Obama on February 17, 2009. The Act includes federal tax relief, expansion of unemployment benefits, domestic spending in education, health care, and infrastructure, including the energy sector.
